Common Risk and Safety Framework – Using the Level 2 Risk Assessment and Safety Planning Tool
What to expect:
This Practice Forum will guide professionals in government and non-government support services to use the Level 2 Risk Assessment and Safety Planning Tool component of the Common Risk and Safety Framework (CRASF). The tools provide resources to support professionals to conduct thorough risk assessments and engage in collaborative safety planning with victim-survivors of domestic and family violence (DFV).
The Level 2 Risk Assessment Tool is used to gather relevant information, assess the risk of harm to the victim-survivor and their children and supports professionals to articulate an overall assessment of risk. This information is integral to mitigating risk and can be used to prevent future violence as well as prioritise service responses to efficiently meet the needs of victim-survivors and their children.
Once the Level 2 Risk Assessment is completed, the Safety Planning Tool is then used in collaboration with the victim-survivor to support their unique safety needs. The Tool supports professionals to draw on the victim-survivor’s goals, priorities, and any strategies they have used in the past to manage risk posed by the person using violence. The Tool supports professionals to explore key safety planning areas, assesses existing supports and conduct a Safety Action Plan with victim-survivors.
This Forum will be presented by a representative from Domestic Violence Action Centre and a representative from the Office for Women and Violence Prevention, Department of Justice and Attorney-General. Join us to learn about the Common Risk and Safety Framework and practice using the Level 2 Tools. We can work together to support the wellbeing and safety of victim-survivors of DFV.
